Yesterday was a really important day. It was A.'s birthday and we are preparing a big party for him tomorrow afternoon at the local playground. I really hope the weather will be fine tomorrow, as we had quite a lot of rain during the last week. We are crossing our finger. I still need to prepare some sandwiches with ham and cheese, some with nutella and some with salami. We will also serve some jam-krapfen and pizzette, not to mention the birthday cake.

Yesterday was important also because it was the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy. We had Italian flags hanging everywhere and ceremonies were held in every city or little town. There was one also at our elementary school. The kids wore green, white and red t-shirts to form a flag and they all sang the national anthem, L'inno di Mameli.
They learned it at school last week. It was a beautiful ceremony. The local police corps: polizia, carabinieri, firemen etc stood there, in front of the children, showing off their full dresses. This way children can recognize them and learn to trust them for the future.
